Glossybox May 2016

Another month & another pretty parcel arrives from Glossybox brimming full of beautiful treats from new discoveries & old favourites. This month instead of the signature pink box subscribers were treated to an illustrated design of an urban destination. There were four different designs by Omy depicting London, Paris, New York or Berlin and as you can see I got New York. The brains (and beauties) at Glossybox thought this would be a great idea because city breaks are now just as popular as beach breaks. The products in this month’s box were included because Glossybox thought they’d be the perfect essentials to keep your complexion healthy, hydrated & protected (as well as beautiful of course!) while you explore the sights of the city. I’ve been a subscriber to Glossybox for almost a year now & this is definitely one of my favourite collections so far.

I’ll start off by talking to you about the Revlon mascara. A few weeks ago Glossybox subscribers were given the choice about which one of the five new Revlon mascaras they’d like to receive. Each mascara is designed to help achieve a different look. This new mascara focuses on particular desires for lashes including: volume, definition and length. I opted for length as this is what I desire most from my mascara. I will say that I think Revlon missed a trick by not having a mascara in their new range that focused on curl as this is something I also look for in a mascara. Revlon’s Super Length is a luscious lengthening formulae that glides on easily & builds quickly for a dramatic look. Super Length features Revlon’s trademarked Lash Stretch brush which features long bristles designed to deliver plush length and a tapered tip to catch & coat even the shortest lashes. This blackest black formulae doesn’t clump and manages to stay put without smudging or flaking (huge thumbs up!) This particular formulation isn’t waterproof but that is an option if you choose to pick this up. As it’s a blackest black formulation you can expect the colour to be a bold jet black shade. I found the brush easy to hold & it’s texturally pleasing too with the bottle having a matte texture and the cap with a sleek shiny texture.  I’ve really enjoyed using this mascara as it delivers great results really quickly. This mascara and the rest of the Revlon collection is available at Boots stores & online at http://www.boots.com Enjoy 3 for 2 on Revlon products plus also save £2 on Revlon’s new Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour  until 8th June 2016.

I’m a huge fan of a nude lip so I was delighted to receive Absolute New York’s Velvet Lippie in Toasted. It’s a beautiful nude shade & I’ve completely fallen in love with this universally flattering shade. It features a creamy buttery soft texture that glides onto lips easily. This product delivers a slick of highly pigmented colour that sets into an on trend matte finish. I would advise that you apply a lip balm before or after using this product because it can feel a bit dry on the lips. While this formulation doesn’t last as long as a stain it still has a decent staying power for a high street product and priced at just £4.93 this lippy is a total bargain! This is a great option for all you nudists out there (nude lipstick fans that is!) and if you love a bargain too then you’re in for a treat. Just be prepared to reapply during the day or on a night out (it’s small enough to fit in your clutch). Available from http://www.absolutenyproducts.com On the second picture below is me wearing this product.

When you’re packing to go on your summer holiday or city break one of the most important things to take apart from your passport, plane tickets & money is a suitable SPF. However SPF is something that seems to get overlooked all to often and this has a very negative effect on our skin, especially as the sun gets hotter over the Summer months. That’s why Glossybox included Hawaiian Tropic Protective Dry Oil with SPF 15, so you no longer have an excuse to forget your SPF. This product will keep skin healthy as it’s protected from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. This clever multi-tasking product helps to prolong that sun kissed glow with it’s water resistant formulae. The blend of cocoa butter, coconut oil and vitamin C nourishes the skin so it keeps skin looking smooth and hydrated with a soft glow. With a coconut scent this product smells so much nicer than your standard sun cream and does so much more too. This is a great all rounder & my new summer essential. Get 20% off any Hawaiian Tropic purchase using the code GLOSSYSUN until 10th June 2016.

I’m a big fan of Bee Good products because they’re made in Britain and all of their products contain NO parabens, synthetic colour, mineral oil, silicone, SLS or SLES. These are all unessential ingredients that often find their way into skincare products and have no benefit to our skin at all. Bee Good are award winners too and have featured in some of the worlds best publications. The Bee Good Youth Enhancing Plump & Firm Moisturiser is a rich creamy moisturiser suitable for all skin types especially mature, ageing and dry skin. This intensive daily moisturiser promises to plump, nourish, smooth and soften your complexion and leave it looking bee-autiful (sorry for the pun). I have combination oily skin so this product wasn’t really designed for me but I did find it good for my dry cheeks, neck and jawline. You can feel and see the plumping action working very quickly. The natural fragrance is really beautiful too with the scent of hydrating honey, antioxident rich propolis and raspberry seed oil which is rich in moisture boosting essential fatty acids. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin to keep hold of moisture thus helping to plump and soften the appearence of fine lines. Concentrated algae tightens and strengthens the skin. I love that this moisturiser doesn’t feel sticky and is absorbed into the skin quickly. I can’t really comment on whether it improves the appearance of wrinkles or not because I don’t really have any yet.  It’s a good choice for those worried about the first signs of ageing. Use the code MAYGLOSS to save £5 when you spend £15 or more at http://www.beegood.co.uk until 30th June 2016.

The last but by no means least product in this box is the Hairon Zero Crease Hair Tie. These hairbands are very similar to Invisibobble hairbands, which is the brand that I already use but I’m always happy to try new ones. The clever spiral design of the hairband means it won’t leave annoying kinks in your hair & ruin your style. The smooth finish of the band also means it won’t cause friction and frizz. I think these hair ties are great and I feel lost without them. I have one living in each of my handbags so that I always have one with me incase I need to tie my hair up while I’m out. After many uses you may find that your Hairon band stretches and comes out of shape but to get it back to its original state just placed it in a bowl of warm clean water and it should go back to normal. These hair bands are great for everyday use and they last a long time. I’ve used loads of them and I’ve only ever had one snap but I do have really thick wavy/curly hair.

Subscribers were treated to an extra treat this month…a bad of lightly sea salted Proper Corn popcorn. Yum! I love popcorn so this was a very welcome surprise for me and at only 43 calories a bag I didn’t need to feel guilty about my midweek treat. They’re ideal for when you’re watching films at home, in lunchboxes or even for a picnic. They’re a great treat without all that nasty fat and calories. I’ve had these before and I’ll definitely be buying them again.

    • Hi Hannah, yeah that moisturiser is lovely especially if you have dry skin & I love all the natural ingredients too. Once you try kink free hair bands you’ll never go back! They really are amazing. Aw thanks very much, it’s a beautiful shade that I think will suit everyone 🙂
