Spacemasks

20170629_161723

My boyfriend often tells me that I stress & worry too much. He says I need to relax more but that’s much easier said than done! I’m the sort of person who worries that they worry too much! So When the lovely Harriet from Spacemasks offered to send me one of their masks I thought it was well worth trying.

20170621_165955

Spacemasks are eye masks that are intended to aid relaxation. They only have two ingredients (essence of jasmine and iron powder) so you know there aren’t any nasty chemicals lurking inside. To use the mask you simply put it over your eyes and pop the clever little loops over your ears. Within minutes your mask will start heating up ready to relieve tiredness, eye strain and puffy hayfever eyes. The heat will last for roughly 15 minutes but the out of this world calm feeling you feel will last much longer!¬†

20170629_161001

The mask starts to heat up as soon as you open the packet because the oxygen molecules in the atmosphere react with the mask’s iron particles in a natural heat exchange. Proving that beauty and science are perfect partners.

20170711_094901

I used my mask after a particularly hectic day & I must say I was very impressed. The first thing that struck me was the beautiful aroma coming from the mask. It wasn’t an overpowering scent but smelt very soothing & relaxing. It was the kind of scent you might expect to smell at a top spa. I lead down on my sofa as I gently placed the mask on my eyes & fitted the loops around my ears. The heat on my sore eyes felt so soothing and relieved a lot of my hayfever symptoms. Before I knew it I had drifted off to sleep. When I woke up I felt so rested and peaceful. I even slept better that night too.

20170629_161245

Each mask is single use but you don’t necessarily have to throw it away after use as you could use it as a regular eye mask in bed if you don’t already have one.

20170621_165909

It’s safe to say that I really enjoyed using my Spacemask & will definitely end up buying some. If you want to try Spacemasks head to http://www.spacemasks.com The masks are priced at ¬£15 for a box of 5.

June Empties

I have never done an empties post before but I’ve been left with a fair few empty bottles this month so I thought I’d try something different.

I’m a firm believer in looking after your skin so I tend to get through quite a few skincare products each month. This month I have two empty bottles of toner and one empty bottle of micellar water. To remove makeup I usually have a quick swipe of an oil based makeup remover (such as Take the day off by Clinique) then I use a micellar water before cleansing with my trusty Cleanse and Polish by Liz Earle to remove all traces of makeup. No panda eyes here!

20170627_135045

My first empty is the Kind to skin micellar cleansing water by Simple. As a teenager I used the Simple cleansing wipes everyday but now that I’m (a little) older I know that wipes don’t do a good enough job so I switched up to the micellar water. This micellar water contains no artificial colours or perfumes plus it does contain multi vitamins so it’s ideal for sensitive skin like mine. I love how simple yet effective this product is; it’s just as easy to use as wipes but much better for your skin & far more effective at removing stubborn makeup. I use this to help remove eye makeup too as I know it won’t sting my eyes. My skin always feels nice & soft after I use it too. I’ve been using this micellar water for many years now & I won’t be stopping any time soon.

20170627_162646

Liz Earle are one of my all time favourite skincare brands & their Instant Boost Skin Tonic is amazing. I get through a lot of this toner and it’s definitely one of my favourite products. The first thing you notice about this toner is the beautiful soft floral scent. It’s heavenly! The product smells very natural & not of chemicals at all. It is also alcohol free, contains no animal extracts & is made here in Great Britain. Liz Earle are famous for using naturally active ingredients & their tonic contains: aloe vera, calendula, cucumber, geranium and vitamin E. All of these are fantastic for the skin and calendula is particularly good for redness & rosacia. Toner is a great step to have in your skincare routine as it helps to prepare the skin for moisturiser plus it removes the last traces of dirt that your cleanser might have missed. The second toner in my stash of empties is the Calming face toner by Naobay. This toner is an eco certified organic product and it’s not tested on animals. I really like the simple packaging of this toner & the wooden lid fits in well with the brand. For the first two weeks I really enjoyed using this toner & was very pleased that it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. However, by the third week the toner had gone mouldy! Yuck! I read a few online reviews & comments and it turns out this is quite common. If this product had a better shelf life then I’d buy it again but I don’t feel that two weeks is long enough & the fact it went mouldy was really disgusting.

20170627_161135

When I went to Bristol a few weeks ago to buy a hoover I ended up in Lush (as you do), and I was given a sample of their Curly Wurly shampoo. I was given enough for two applications. My first impressions were pretty good. It smells quite tropical & particularly of coconut. The texture is a bit strange compared to other shampoos as it’s much thicker and has coconut flakes in it. The texture is more similar to a body scrub than a regular shampoo. You need to rub the product into your palms before applying to your wet hair. Once the product is in your hair you will need to rub the product quite a lot as it doesn’t lather like other shampoos do. It’s also better to leave this product in your hair for about 10-15 mins before rinsing. I followed these instructions and I did find that this shampoo worked well for my hair type (thick naturally wavy/curly hair). Next time I’m in Lush I might have to pick up the full size!

20170627_134929

Next up is the Batiste light & blonde hint of colour dry shampoo. I prefer this product to regular dry shampoo as it helps lift my natural hair colour and doesn’t leave a grey residue. Dry shampoo is a beauty essential for most of us on those days when there simply isn’t time to wash, dry & style your locks. I love that Batiste is very purse friendly too!

20170628_171440

Ever since Percy & Reed burst onto the hairdressing scene in 2007 I’ve been obsessed with their products. My absolute favourite is their Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm. I’ve got through countless tubes of this product & I couldn’t live without it. This product is a leave in balm that preps & primes your hair ready for all your styling products. It gives you more control & results that last longer. I find this product really maximises definition & helps to tame flyaways too.

20170627_162741

Finally, it’s The Breakfast Scrub by Soap & Glory. My favourite things about this scrub are the gorgeous scent of maple and it’s creamy moisturising texture. This tub lasts for ages and makes a real noticeible difference to the skin. My legs & arms feel so soft & smooth after using this. Generally I use a body scrub once a week after shaving to remove dead skin cells. It removes old fake tan too. It’s perfect for Summer when you have to bare those pins!

Thank you for reading! What products have you finished this month?

A Guide To Cruising For First Timers

IMG_20170528_143536_712

It’s that time of year when everyone seems to be planning their summer holiday, panicking that they haven’t booked yet or¬†suffering from holiday blues if like me you had your summer holiday a bit earlier than everyone else. My boyfriend, Jon and I hadn’t had a proper holiday for a little while until we went on our cruise. This was mainly due to my health (for full details read my post here). So after an eventful few years we decided to book a holiday together as we knew we needed it & deserved it. We wanted a holiday that would be interesting enough to keep us entertained and I really liked the idea of seeing lots of different places so a cruise sounded perfect for us. Going on a cruise was a fantastic experience for us both but there were certain things¬†we wish we’d known before we went, so that’s why I decided to write a post about cruises for anyone who¬†hasn’t been on one before.

20170507_143548

Once we decided we definitely wanted to go on a cruise we started¬†searching online for the best deals & once we found some that we were happy with we decided to go to a travel agent to get some advice. If you haven’t cruised before then I thoroughly recommend doing this. Our travel agent was really helpful as she’d been on several different cruises before &¬†could not only¬†tell us a lot about what to expect but could also price match the cruise we wanted. Flicking through travel brochures can often be a lot easier & more pleasant than trawling through loads of¬†different websites too. To begin our search we used¬†the Planet Cruise website as we could compare lots of different cruises all in one place. Planet cruise is a great place to start so that you can get an idea of what to expect for your money.

20170510_135019

We decided to go on a P&O cruise around the Mediterranean for 14 days and our ship was called Ventura. Our destinations were: Alicante, Barcelona, Marsaille (was supposed to be Cannes), Florence, Rome, Cartagena and Gibraltar.¬†We choose P&O because we’d heard good things about them plus we didn’t need to get on any flights. Instead we could just board the ship in Southampton & set sail from there. Some of you may prefer to fly in order to miss out on some of the sea days. Sea days are when¬†the ship is traveling to your next port & you are out at sea so you can’t get off the ship. Sea days are good for relaxing & exploring the ship but personally I wouldn’t want too many of them. On sea days the ship is obviously much busier than when you’re¬†in a port so meal times can get quite busy, as can pools & other public areas.

20170510_115601

Before you set sail you’ll be given details for your cruise personaliser, which is a website all about your cruise. It will give you information about packing, maximum weights for your¬†luggage, your itinerary, how to book excursions and more. It’s worth knowing that if you¬†choose to set sail from Southampton you’ll be allowed a much more generous luggage allowance than if you choose to¬†fly. With P&O you can also take drink on board with you, including alcohol & soft drinks.

IMG_20170428_115731_207

Getting to Southampton was pretty easy for us as we’re only a couple of hours away but if you live further afield then you can choose to take a coach rather than driving. We had parking included in the price of our cruise but this is something to consider if you do decide to drive.

IMG_20170522_145521_421

You will be given a time to arrive at the terminal¬†by your cruise operator and generally you do have to stick to this time but we arrived just over an hour early & they did let us through. So it’s worth trying if you are a little early.

IMG_20170517_142212_113

Once you’re on board the ship will seem overwhelming at first but you will get used to it after a few days. There are maps located all over the ship to help you if you do get lost & you can also ask a member of the crew for help.

IMG_20170524_091800_667

Every day on our cruise we received a newspaper called horizon & this publication tells you about all the events & entertainment happening on board that day. For example it will tell you what shows are on in the theatre that evening as well as handy information such as restaurant opening times. This newspaper is delivered to your cabin each evening ready for the next day.

IMG_20170527_234457_190

When our ship arrived in a new port it docked quite early & people were generally allowed to disembark from around 8am so it’s worth being up early to make the most of your day. Our ship left the ports between 4-6pm each day with the exception of the last port (Gibralter) when the ship left at 1pm. Before you set sail you will have the option to book excursions around each of your destinations. As we hadn’t cruised before we booked excursions for most places but found that we didn’t really need to unless the port¬†was a long distance away from the place¬†we wanted to visit. For example we needed to book an excursion to Florence because the ship docked in Livorno and it was an hour & a half coach journey from the port to Florence. That journey would have been far too expensive by taxi. So if the port is close to the town/city then you don’t need an excursion as you can do the same activities that the excursions offer yourself.

IMG_20170521_104109_717

P&O like guests to be quite smartly dressed¬†and have dress codes in¬†most of the restaurants. The dress code each night was either evening casual or black tie but you could avoid dressing smartly if you wanted to by just eating in the buffet restaurants.¬†For evening casual my boyfriend wore¬†a polo top & chinos with smart shoes & I either¬†wore a dress, skirt and a smart¬†top or trousers and a¬†smart top. For black tie my boyfriend wore a tux and I wore a cocktail dress or¬†smart evening dress. There were 4 black tie nights over the course of our 14 night cruise. Personally¬†I really enjoyed getting dressed up for dinner & hogging the mirror for an hour to do my hair &¬†makeup (Haha, sorry¬†Jon!) If you can’t¬†look & feel your best on holiday then when can you?

IMG_20170518_103000_437It’s also worth knowing that the large majority of passengers on board a cruise ship are (how do I put this?) over a certain age. The vast majority are in their 50s/60s/70s and beyond. I’m only pointing this out because I know that this would seriously bother some people. It didn’t bother us too much but it would’ve been nice to talk to some other couples our own age. However we did talk to some really lovely older couples. If you’re after a young party atmosphere then this might not be your cup of tea!

All meals are included in the price of your cruise with P&O but you have to pay for all drinks (excluding water & fruit juice at breakfast) on board. This can get quite pricey over two weeks so I recommend stocking up on your tipple of choice from a shop in one of the ports or bringing some with you. The prices of drinks on board are about the same as most bars. For example cocktails are roughly £5 each, mocktails are £2.65 each and soft fizzy drinks are about £2.50 each.

IMG_20170527_111808_395Our cruise had a great variety of entertainment on board in the evenings including singers, comedians, dancers and west end theatre style shows. I would advise that you arrive within plenty of time for these shows as the venues do fill up very quickly! I highly recommend that you do see the theatre shows on board as they are amazing & will really add something special to your holiday. One of the shows we watched was all about musicals & featured music and dance routines from many different productions.

I think that’s about it for now but if I think of anything else I’ll add it in later. If you have any questions then please feel free to leave a comment or tweet me @KateIsCoveting. Thanks for reading!

Blue Sky Tag

I know that tag posts might not be for everyone but personally I really like them because you get to know the blogger behind the blog & they’re fun to write!

IMG_20170323_210333

There are 4 rules for taking part in the blue sky tag: 1. Thank the person who nominated you. 2. Answer the 11 questions they asked you. 3. Tag 11 people. 4. Ask them 11 questions. Simple!

I was nominated for the #BlueSkyTag by the lovely Claire of http://www.mamavoom.com so big thanks to her!

Q1: How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

A1: I have been blogging for nearly two years now but I haven’t been very consistent due to illness. I started blogging because I love writing & photography and I wanted a new hobby. I have continued to blog because I love the blogging community and all the new friends I’ve made!

Q2: What is your all time favourite movie?

A2: Ooh this is a tough question! One of my favourites since I was younger was always Titanic. Yes I know it’s cheesy but I’m a sucker for romance. Kate Winslet is also one of my favourite actresses.

Q3: Lipstick shades РNude or bold?

A3: Definitely nude! I’m a huge fan of a nude lip. It suits everyone & is really easy to wear.

IMG_20170304_194154

Q4: Who is a woman that inspires you?

A4: I have two groups of women who inspire me. Firstly the Suffragettes because without them we wouldn’t have the level of gender equality that we take for granted today. Some of these women were working mothers who still found the time & energy to campaign. The second group are my fellow female bloggers. You ladies inspire me everyday with your wonderful posts & your amazing photography. I’m very pleased to say that many of you are now friends.

Q5: What was the last book you read?

A5: I’ve just finished a book called The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham. It’s a brilliant story all about fashion, love, hate and revenge. It’s set in Australia in the 50s & is full of interesting complex characters. I highly recommend it!

IMG_20170324_122837

Q6: Early bird or night owl?

A6: Definitely a night owl, which is kind of annoying because my partner is an early bird!

Q7: What was the last concert you went to?

A7: I haven’t been to a music concert for a little while. My last was probably Rebecca Ferguson in Cardiff with my boyfriend a few years ago. Shortly before that I went to see Pink with my best friend at the O2 in London.

Q8: Where would you go if you could visit any country?

A8: There are so many places that I’d love to visit but very high up on my list is Canada. It looks so beautiful there. My uncle lived there for most of his life & he loved it.

IMG_20170320_152224

Q9: How many lipsticks are in your handbag right now?

A9: Only one lipstick but I also have a lipgloss & a lipbalm. The lipstick is by No7 in a shade called honey bloom. The lipgloss & lipbalm are both by Elizabeth Arden.

Q10: What is your favourite makeup brand?

A10: This is definitely the toughest question on the list! I absolutely adore makeup & I love so many different brands. I like a mix of high street and high end brands. Some of my favourites are: Benefit, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Rimmel, Barry M and No7.

Q11: What quote do you live your life by?

A11: “When it rains look for rainbows & when it’s dark look for the stars.” I love this quote because it completely sums up what life is about. We all need to appreciate the little things and be grateful for what we do have.

20170311_143834

I hope you enjoyed reading my answers. I will tag 11 people on instagram so head over to my account (@KateIsCoveting) to see if it’s you. If you haven’t been tagged please feel free to take part anyway!

Here are the 11 questions I’d like you to answer:

1. What would you say is your best quality?

2. What is your favourite place that you’ve visited?

3. Do you prefer lipstick or lipgloss?

4. Do you have any pets?

5. Are you more of an indoors or outdoors sort of person?

6. Who would play you in a film about your life?

7. What is your favourite memory?

8. What’s on your wishlist at the moment?

9. What TV series are you addicted to right now?

10. What is your favourite Disney film?

11. Any tips for aspiring bloggers?

Look Good Feel Better Brushes

It’s highly likely that every single one of you lovely people reading this has either lost a loved one to cancer or know somebody who has been diagnosed with this horrendous illness. I have lost several family members to cancer and used to nurse people with this illness. Cancer effects every aspect of that person’s life including physical appearance and that’s where Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) come in!¬†

20170311_141914

LGFB are currently the only international cancer support charity. They provide practical and effective free services for women & teenagers struggling with the visible side effects of cancer treatment. LGFB are dedicated to improving the well being and self confidence of people undergoing treatment for cancer of any type. So far they have helped over 130,000 patients to date.

IMG_20170314_205824

So when I saw this gorgeous set of anti bacterial makeup brushes on the M&S website I added to basket straight away! Knowing that my beauty treat is also helping others is a lovely feeling.

20170311_141115

My first impressions of this set were very positive! Here’s some of the things I like about this set:

  • ¬†I love that you get a handy pouch to store your brushes in. This means my brushes are less likely to pick up dirt & will stay cleaner for longer
  • The beautiful burgundy shade of the handles is so pretty and very distinctive
  • The brush heads are so soft. These are probably the softest brushes I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried a fair few brushes!)
  • They’re anti bacterial! This is a great feature for somebody like me who might be (just a little bit) OCD about bacteria & dirt

IMG_20170312_200456

20170311_141518

I was extremely excited to use these brushes after initially being so impressed. First up I tried the eyeshadow brush & found it much easier to use than my current brush. As the bristles are so soft it didn’t feel scratchy like some can. It was brilliant for creating a smoky eye too. A brilliant blender.

20170311_141144

The lip brush was particularly useful when applying matte liquid lipsticks as I find these harder to apply & you have to be more precise with them than regular lipstick or lipgloss. All of the brushes in this set are easy to hold & feel sturdy.

The gorgeous big fluffy brush is perfect for applying powder foundation, face powder or bronzer. This is the softest brush in the collection & feels so satisfying on the skin.

20170311_143834

The size and shape of the foundation brush in this collection is slightly different to others. Instead of being flat this one has a round tip & has a smaller brush. However, I still found that this brush did what I expected it to do. It was great for blending too.

20170311_141709

After being very impressed with this set myself I wasn’t surprised to learn that it had won two awards in 2015. These brushes are definitely professional quality plus they are fab on sensitive skin (like mine) and they’re cruelty free too! What’s not to love?

20170311_141021

Thank you very much for reading! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or have tried this brand before.

Glossybox May 2016

DSC_0919.JPG

Another month & another pretty parcel arrives from Glossybox brimming full of beautiful treats from new discoveries & old favourites. This month instead of the signature pink box subscribers were treated to an illustrated design of an urban destination. There were four different designs by Omy depicting London, Paris, New York or Berlin and as you can see I got New York. The brains (and beauties) at Glossybox thought this would be a great idea because city breaks are now just as popular as beach breaks. The products in this month’s box were included because Glossybox thought they’d be the perfect essentials to keep your complexion healthy, hydrated & protected (as well as beautiful of course!) while you explore the sights of the city. I’ve been a subscriber to Glossybox for almost a year now & this is definitely one of my favourite collections so far.

DSC_0893.JPG

I’ll start off by talking to you about the Revlon mascara. A few weeks ago Glossybox subscribers were given the choice about which one of the five new Revlon mascaras they’d like to receive. Each mascara is designed to help achieve a different look. This new mascara focuses on particular desires for lashes including: volume, definition and length. I opted for length as this is what I desire most from my mascara. I will say that I think Revlon missed a trick by not having a mascara in their new range that focused on curl as this is something I also look for in a mascara. Revlon’s Super Length is a luscious lengthening formulae that glides on easily & builds quickly for a dramatic look. Super Length features Revlon’s trademarked Lash Stretch brush which features long bristles designed to deliver plush length and a tapered tip to catch & coat even the shortest lashes. This blackest black formulae doesn’t clump and manages to stay put without smudging or flaking (huge thumbs up!) This particular formulation isn’t waterproof but that is an option if you choose to pick this up. As it’s a blackest black formulation you can expect the colour to be a bold jet black shade.¬†I found the brush easy to hold & it’s texturally pleasing too with the bottle having a matte texture and the cap with a sleek shiny texture. ¬†I’ve really enjoyed using this mascara as it delivers great results really quickly. This mascara and the rest of the Revlon collection is available at Boots stores & online at http://www.boots.com Enjoy 3 for 2 on Revlon products plus also save ¬£2 on Revlon’s new Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour ¬†until 8th June 2016.

DSC_0899.JPG DSC_0900.JPG

I’m a huge fan of a nude lip so I was delighted to receive Absolute New York’s Velvet Lippie in Toasted. It’s a beautiful nude shade & I’ve completely fallen in love with this universally flattering shade. It features a creamy buttery soft texture that glides onto lips easily. This product delivers a slick of highly pigmented colour that sets into an on trend matte finish. I would advise that you apply a lip balm before or after using this product because it can feel a bit dry on the lips. While this formulation doesn’t last as long as a stain it still has a decent staying power for a high street product and priced at just ¬£4.93 this lippy is a total bargain! This is a great option for all you nudists¬†out there (nude lipstick fans that is!) and if you love a bargain too then you’re in for a treat. Just be prepared to reapply during the day or on a night out (it’s small enough to fit in your clutch). Available from http://www.absolutenyproducts.com On the second picture below is me wearing this product.

DSC_0902.JPG DSC_0991.JPG

When you’re packing to go on your summer holiday or city break one of the most important things to take apart from your passport, plane tickets & money is a suitable SPF. However SPF is something that seems to get overlooked all to often and this has a very negative effect on our skin, especially as the sun gets hotter over the Summer months. That’s why Glossybox included Hawaiian Tropic Protective Dry Oil with SPF 15, so you no longer have an excuse to forget your SPF. This product will keep skin healthy as it’s protected from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. This clever multi-tasking product helps to prolong that sun kissed glow with it’s water resistant formulae. The blend of cocoa butter, coconut oil and vitamin C nourishes the skin so it¬†keeps skin looking smooth and hydrated with a soft glow. With a coconut scent this product smells so much nicer than your standard sun cream and does so much more too. This is a great all rounder & my new summer essential. Get 20% off any Hawaiian Tropic purchase using the code GLOSSYSUN until 10th June 2016.

I’m a big fan of Bee Good products because they’re made in Britain and all of their products contain NO parabens, synthetic colour, mineral oil, silicone, SLS or SLES. These are all unessential ingredients that often find their way into skincare products and have no benefit to our skin at all. Bee Good are award winners too and have featured in some of the worlds best publications. The Bee Good Youth Enhancing Plump & Firm Moisturiser is a rich creamy moisturiser suitable for all skin types especially mature, ageing and dry skin. This intensive daily moisturiser promises to plump, nourish, smooth and soften your complexion and leave it looking bee-autiful (sorry for the pun). I have combination oily skin so this product wasn’t really designed for me but I did find it good for my dry cheeks, neck and jawline. You can feel and see the plumping action working very quickly. The natural fragrance is really beautiful too with the scent of hydrating honey, antioxident rich propolis and raspberry seed oil which is rich in moisture boosting essential fatty acids. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin to keep hold of moisture thus helping to plump and soften the appearence of fine lines. Concentrated algae tightens and strengthens the skin. I love that this moisturiser doesn’t feel sticky and is absorbed into the skin quickly. I can’t really comment on whether it improves the appearance of wrinkles or not because I don’t really have any yet. ¬†It’s a good choice for those worried about the first signs of ageing. Use the code MAYGLOSS to save ¬£5 when you spend ¬£15 or more at http://www.beegood.co.uk until 30th June 2016.

DSC_0910.JPG

The last but by no means least product in this box is the Hairon Zero Crease Hair Tie. These hairbands are very similar to Invisibobble hairbands, which is the brand that I already use but I’m always happy to try new ones. The clever spiral design of the hairband means it won’t leave annoying kinks in your hair & ruin your style. The smooth finish of the band also means it won’t cause friction and frizz. I think these hair ties are great and I feel lost without them. I have one living in each of my handbags so that I always have one with me incase I need to tie my hair up while I’m out. After many uses you may find that your Hairon band stretches and comes out of shape but to get it back to its original state just placed it in a bowl of warm clean water and it should go back to normal. These hair bands are great for everyday use and they last a long time. I’ve used loads of them and I’ve only ever had one snap but I do have really thick wavy/curly hair.

Subscribers were treated to an extra treat this month…a bad of lightly sea salted Proper Corn popcorn. Yum! I love popcorn so this was a very welcome surprise for me and at only 43 calories a bag I didn’t need to feel guilty about my midweek treat. They’re ideal for when you’re watching films at home, in lunchboxes or even for a picnic. They’re a great treat without all that nasty fat and calories. I’ve had these before and I’ll definitely be buying them again.

Clinique Beauty Box

DSC_0742.JPG

The excitement bubbled away inside me when Latest In Beauty’s email hit my inbox last week;¬†The British Beauty Blogger Clinique Edit II¬†is here¬†it exclaimed & my fingers were twitching to get clicking. There was no way I was missing out on this box. The contents looked far too good. I didn’t want to feel annoyed at myself for missing out on yet another sell out beauty must have so as soon as I could I ferociously tapped away on the laptop & secured my box.

If you’ve used Clinique before then you’ll know why I was so eager to get my hands on one of these boxes. Clinique use science to bring us innovative products that deliver results fast. They are famous for their 3 step skincare systems which have different formulations for different skin types. The 3 step system was created in 1968 and it was the first ever dermatologist created, allergy tested, 100% fragrance free collection of beauty products ever marketed. The 3 step system is a daily cleansing, toning, exfoliating & moisturising regime & this Clinique box contains products from this range.

This is what my beautiful Clinique box contained:

  • Full Size Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara in Jumbo Jet (black)
  • Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion + (very dry to dry combination) (15ml)
  • ¬† Liquid Facial Soap (Mild) (30ml)
  • Superprimer Universal Face Primer (15ml)
  • Take The Day Off Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips (30ml)
  • Full Size Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm in Red Velvet
  • Aromatics in Black Fragrance (4ml)
  • Clinique For Men Face Scrub (15ml)
  • ¬£10 off voucher & invitation for a free sample of foundation

I’ll start off with one of my favourites:¬†Superprimer Universal Face Primer. I liked this product so much that I used my ¬£10 off voucher to purchase it from the Clinique website. I’m a huge advocate of using a primer under your makeup as I really believe it makes your makeup last so much longer. If you don’t use a primer already then this is a great one to start with as it covers all bases. After applying this product my skin felt much softer & smoother plus my foundation looked fresher for longer as well as lasting longer. This primer is oil free, lightweight and colour correcting. In the Superprimer range there are also primers that target specific skin concerns such as redness & dull skin. I opted for the anti redness Superprimer as I suffer with rosacea. As I was so impressed with this universal Superprimer I really can’t wait for my full size anti redness Superprimer to arrive. I’ll let you know how I get on with it & if it helps with my rosacea.

Another one of my favourite products in the box was the Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm in Red Velvet. Sweet pots contain a lip scrub & lip balm conveniently in one pot so that you can exfoliate your lips before applying a hit of sheer colour. I’m rather shy when it comes to red lipstick but I love this shade because it has a hint of red without being too loud & it suits all skin tones. I found that the lip scrub wasn’t as exfoliating as some lip scrubs that I’ve used before but it did definitely make a difference. My lips felt much softer & smoother after using the scrub plus using the lip balm straight after the scrub delivers an extra hit of moisturisation as well as a slick of sheer red colour. Pretty sweet!

I’m a mascara junkie so I was thrilled to discover a full size mascara that I hadn’t tried inside my box. The¬†Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara¬†is a great all rounder. I’m very impressed with this mascara. The wand is great for ensuring no nasty clumps make their way onto your pretty lashes. It’s a jet black shade so it really will make your lashes take centre stage. The oversized volumising wand takes your lashes from fine & faint to bodacious and bold. I found the rich colour was easy to build upon so it was easy to get the look I wanted, whether that was a big dramatic look or just a pretty daytime flutter. This mascara is ophthalmologist Tested & allergy Tested plus as with all Clinique products it’s 100% Fragrance Free.

Moisturising is an essential part of any beauty regime no matter what skin type you have. The¬†Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion +¬†is one of the brands most popular products & has won awards including the UK’s number 1 moisturising brand. It’s become a cult product in recent years with beauty editors, bloggers & customers alike going crazy for it. As I have combination skin the sample I received would probably be better suited to a dry skin type but the lotion was great for the dry areas on my cheeks & neck. I’ve used this product many times before & actually own the full size product in the combination/oily version. I love this product. It really does live up to the hype. It tackles dry areas quickly leaving a matte smooth & soft finish. Skin feels so much softer & springy plus looks smoother & glowing after application. This new formula helps strengthen skin’s own moisture barrier so more moisture stays in.

If I had to pick one step I’d say that cleansing is the most important part of your regime. It should be done twice a day (morning & evening) to keep skin in tip top condition & keep those pesky spots at bay. Clinique’s Liquid Facial Soap Mild¬†is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin types. I have very sensitive skin & suffer from rosacea and I found this cleanser was fine for my skin. It’s 100% fragrance free so it won’t cause your skin to flare up. The texture is very similar to liquid hand soap and this is one of the reasons that it’s not my favourite cleanser. Don’t get me wrong I do really like it but I think I must prefer a creamy or thicker texture in a cleanser such as Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Bee Good Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser or Clinique Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser.¬†One of the great things about this cleanser is that it’s mild enough to be non-stripping and leave skin lipids intact.

Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips¬†is another iconic product from Clinique. It’s especially useful for removing waterproof makeup such as mascara, eyeliner or lip stains. The formula loosens long wearing makeup in a way other removers cant, leaving you to gently swipe the makeup away with a cotton pad. It’s suitable for contact lens wearers too. I found this product did exactly what it said on the bottle. It removed all of my makeup without any trouble, even stubborn mascara that normally leaves me with panda eyes (not a good look!) It’s a great size bottle too, perfect for weekends away. It feels a bit greasy when you first apply it but don’t worry the formula dries quickly without that sticky feel.

Now I come onto the fragrance in the box Aromatics in Black.¬†It has a deep fruity floral scent with a kick of spice that makes it perfect for nights out & sophisticated occasions. It’s definitely the perfect companion to an LBD (little black dress) & some sparkling jewels. It’s a great size to pop in your clutch too. While I really love the scent I can’t say I think too much of the packaging. The packaging is far too simple & boring for a high end perfume in my opinion. Some may like the simple look but I like my perfume bottles & boxes to be eye catching & a bit different from all the other hoards of fragrance on the market. Put it this way I’d have never looked twice at it in a shop but I’d have missed out on such a gorgeous scent. The scent is not very sweet at all it’s a much darker smell. Very elegant & would suit all ages. Love the scent but boring packaging.

The final product in the collection is¬†Clinique For Men Face Scrub. My partner hasn’t started sampling this product yet but I’ve had a play with it and I’ve found that as it only has a slight minty smell there’s nothing to stop us girls from using it too. It’s a really great exfoliant and you can instantly see the difference after just one use. The scent of the product makes you feel refreshed and wide awake. It makes a great little treat for your man plus you’ll notice the benefits on his skin too! Win win.

Overall I’d say this is one of the best beauty boxes I’ve ever bought as every single product in this box was of some use to me & I really liked them all. The box cost ¬£20 and I bought it from http://www.latestinbeauty.com but unfortunately they all sold out pretty much straight away but you can sign up to their emails or keep an eye on the website as new boxes are launched all the time & as this box has been so successful I imagine they’ll probably do another edit. These products are also available individually from http://www.clinique.co.uk
