January Favourites

I’m sure I’m not the only one to be celebrating the fact that January is finally over! In my opinion, January is the worst month of the year. It’s awash with depressing diet adverts that make us all feel that little bit more inadequate. Secondly, everyone seems to be giving something up and therefore everyone is miserable. The fact that it’s still Winter and we have no pretty Christmas lights to brighten up the bleak darkness at 4pm is just another kick in the teeth. Now that February is finally here, it does mean it’s time for another favourites post. So here are some of the products I was loving during January…

Firstly I’ll start with a mascara that was sent to me by Influenster. It’s the Velvet Noir mascara by Marc Jacobs and (spoiler alert) it’s amazing!¬†I think most people would agree mascara is a beauty holy grail. If I’m short on time & can only apply one makeup product I always go for mascara. However, finding a good one in a market saturated with different wands & formulas all promising great results can be tricky. I was absolutely thrilled to be sent this mascara & overjoyed to discover that it’s actually a great all rounder. It has a jet black formula, doesn’t go clumpy, doesn’t feel heavy and makes such a noticeable difference to my lashes. One coat is usually enough but two coats are perfect for a night out. Aside from the actual product, I also really like the sleek packing. The simple black looks classic yet the shape of the tube is quite unusual. That phrase probably sums up the whole Marc Jacobs brand: classic yet unusual. The volume and curl of the mascara are long lasting too. I can wear it all day without the need for touch ups in the loos! The formula is very water resistant too. During a typical British downpour my mascara didn’t budge. It’s a big thumbs up from me.

I hadn’t heard of IT cosmetics before 2017 but this brand is one of my favourite discoveries. The brand works with plastic surgeons to develop their products and the results are hard to argue with. My favourite product from IT has to be their CC cream. The tagline reads “Your skin but better” and that’s exactly what this cream does. CC stands for colour correcting so this cream will even out redness, dark circles, sallowness and any other skin concerns. The product is also anti ageing & won’t sit in fine lines or wrinkles. Depending on my skins condition, sometimes I wear this cream alone or I add a light layer of foundation over the top if my skin needs it. If you’re running short on time you can use this cream as your moisturiser, anti ageing serum, concealer, foundation and sunscreen all in one! Did I mention that it also contains SPF 50? It’s fair to say this product is pretty impressive. In fact, it’s so impressive it makes other makeup feel a bit inferior.

Recently my hands have been really sore and very dry. They got so bad that they were actually quite painful. My brother had the same problem and he told me his E45 cream was really helping. I obviously had to try this cream for myself and I’m pretty pleased with the results. Unfortunately, the cream hasn’t completely cleared up my problem but it has really helped. I will continue to use to for the next few months & let you know how I get on. The cream claims to help with: dry/flaky skin, eczema, itchy skin, dermatitis, dry psoriasis and sunburn. The product has a medium consistency but doesn’t feel greasy on my hands. The cream does take a little while until it’s fully absorbed but I usually use it before bed so this doesn’t really bother me.

If you follow me on Instagram then I’m sure you know how much I’ve been loving the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom eyeshadow palette lately. The colours are so pigmented & long lasting. The palette contains 12 complimentary shades that are perfect for every season. The shades are buttery soft & aren’t chalky at all. I recently used this palette to create a look for a wedding & my eyeshadow lasted all day (12 hours). The palette has really pretty packaging & comes with a good sized mirror. The shade, charmer in the top left corner is a perfect base shade and helps to counteract any discolouration on the eyelid. I know I’ll be getting lots of use out of this palette.

For most people dry January means giving up alcohol, but for me it refers to how parched my hair is. My skin & hair always suffer in Winter but are particularly bad in January. I knew my hair needed a deep treatment so I decided to use my Lee Stafford Arganoil pre-shampoo treatment. You apply the mask to dry mid lengths and ends of hair and leave on for 10-15 mins. Once the time is up you simply wash your hair as usual. Even after just one use my hair feels so much softer and more manageable. Split ends are a lot less prominent and frizz is reduced. What more could you ask for from a hair mask?

Personally, I don’t buy into having a signature scent. I’m a perfume addict and love having a fragrance wardrobe. I love being able to pick a perfume depending on my mood & what I’m wearing. I’ve never owned a Jo Malone perfume before but one has always been on my wish list. I was delighted when my boyfriend bought me the English Oak & Redcurrant cologne for Christmas. I tried this scent in John Lewis and fell in love with it. The top notes are quite fruity but the base notes are very woody. It’s quite a rich scent and it’s definitely perfect for Autumn and Winter. It’s a great perfume to wear with a cashmere jumper to a Sunday carvery or for an evening out with friends. The scent itself is long lasting, so there’s no need to reapply throughout the day.

Finally, I want to share with you my latest skincare discovery. It’s the Garnier micellar oil-infused cleansing water. I use this cleanser to remove waterproof makeup and love the fact that I don’t have to rinse it off afterwards. This product is suitable for delicate skin & eyes. It even has an award from the British Skin Foundation. To use this product you simply shake the bottle to mix the oil then apply with a cotton pad. The best news is it doesn’t sting my eyes! When I bought this product it had a third off & cost me about ¬£3 for 400ml, so it’s a bargain too!

L’Or√©al Pure Clay Face Masks

I have a confession to make. I love face masks. I have tried so many & love how they make my skin feel. They can make such a massive difference to your skin if you pick the right one.

When I first heard about the new range of clay face masks from L’Or√©al I was really excited to try them. I love that their new range caters for a whole host of skin concerns including blemishes, oiliness and dullness.

There are five different masks in the new collection & each one contains three pure clays along with other carefully selected ingredients. The three pure clays that all the masks contain are: kaolin, montmorillonite and ghassoul. These ingredients help to eliminate impurities, absorb excess sebum, eliminate imperfections and clarify the skin.

The first mask I tried from this collection was the detox mask. The mask is black due to the fact it contains charcoal, which acts like a magnet to draw out impurities. The mask has a creamy texture & cleanses deep down into the skin to clear pores and detoxify the skin. I was really impressed with this mask as my pores were noticeably smaller. My skin felt so clean & wasn’t dried out.

As I was suffering from a break out on my chin, I thought it was a good time to try the blemish rescue mask. This mask contains marine algae extract, which is known for it’s anti-blemish properties. The mask targets deep down into the pores, to unclog blackheads & clear imperfections. My skin was left feeling fresh, pure and soft.

I have a combination/oily complexion so any product that promises to reduce excess sebum is always high on my list to try. The purity mask also has a creamy texture & contains eucalyptus extract, which is known for it’s purifying properties. After using this mask my skin felt mattified without feeling dried out.

My skin is often left looking dull so I was excited to try the glow and bright masks from the range. Both masks are very similar. The texture of both is grainy & not as creamy as the other masks. The masks work by exfoliating the skin to remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter, more radiant skin. My skin did look brighter & more glowy after each use. If you like the Origins original skin retexturizing mask then these two are great budget alternatives.

Overall I’m really pleased with all these masks. They all had a pleasant smell & had a positive impact on my skin. I will continue to use them & I’m sure I’ll be repurchasing. The masks retail at approximately ¬£10 each but I got mine on offer for ¬£7 each.

Thank you for reading. Let me know what your favourite face masks are.

June Empties

I have never done an empties post before but I’ve been left with a fair few empty bottles this month so I thought I’d try something different.

I’m a firm believer in looking after your skin so I tend to get through quite a few skincare products each month. This month I have two empty bottles of toner and one empty bottle of micellar water. To remove makeup I usually have a quick swipe of an oil based makeup remover (such as Take the day off by Clinique) then I use a micellar water before cleansing with my trusty Cleanse and Polish by Liz Earle to remove all traces of makeup. No panda eyes here!

My first empty is the Kind to skin micellar cleansing water by Simple. As a teenager I used the Simple cleansing wipes everyday but now that I’m (a little) older I know that wipes don’t do a good enough job so I switched up to the micellar water. This micellar water contains no artificial colours or perfumes plus it does contain multi vitamins so it’s ideal for sensitive skin like mine. I love how simple yet effective this product is; it’s just as easy to use as wipes but much better for your skin & far more effective at removing stubborn makeup. I use this to help remove eye makeup too as I know it won’t sting my eyes. My skin always feels nice & soft after I use it too. I’ve been using this micellar water for many years now & I won’t be stopping any time soon.

Liz Earle are one of my all time favourite skincare brands & their Instant Boost Skin Tonic is amazing. I get through a lot of this toner and it’s definitely one of my favourite products. The first thing you notice about this toner is the beautiful soft floral scent. It’s heavenly! The product smells very natural & not of chemicals at all. It is also alcohol free, contains no animal extracts & is made here in Great Britain. Liz Earle are famous for using naturally active ingredients & their tonic contains: aloe vera, calendula, cucumber, geranium and vitamin E. All of these are fantastic for the skin and calendula is particularly good for redness & rosacia. Toner is a great step to have in your skincare routine as it helps to prepare the skin for moisturiser plus it removes the last traces of dirt that your cleanser might have missed. The second toner in my stash of empties is the Calming face toner by Naobay. This toner is an eco certified organic product and it’s not tested on animals. I really like the simple packaging of this toner & the wooden lid fits in well with the brand. For the first two weeks I really enjoyed using this toner & was very pleased that it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. However, by the third week the toner had gone mouldy! Yuck! I read a few online reviews & comments and it turns out this is quite common. If this product had a better shelf life then I’d buy it again but I don’t feel that two weeks is long enough & the fact it went mouldy was really disgusting.

When I went to Bristol a few weeks ago to buy a hoover I ended up in Lush (as you do), and I was given a sample of their Curly Wurly shampoo. I was given enough for two applications. My first impressions were pretty good. It smells quite tropical & particularly of coconut. The texture is a bit strange compared to other shampoos as it’s much thicker and has coconut flakes in it. The texture is more similar to a body scrub than a regular shampoo. You need to rub the product into your palms before applying to your wet hair. Once the product is in your hair you will need to rub the product quite a lot as it doesn’t lather like other shampoos do. It’s also better to leave this product in your hair for about 10-15 mins before rinsing. I followed these instructions and I did find that this shampoo worked well for my hair type (thick naturally wavy/curly hair). Next time I’m in Lush I might have to pick up the full size!

Next up is the Batiste light & blonde hint of colour dry shampoo. I prefer this product to regular dry shampoo as it helps lift my natural hair colour and doesn’t leave a grey residue. Dry shampoo is a beauty essential for most of us on those days when there simply isn’t time to wash, dry & style your locks. I love that Batiste is very purse friendly too!

Ever since Percy & Reed burst onto the hairdressing scene in 2007 I’ve been obsessed with their products. My absolute favourite is their Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm. I’ve got through countless tubes of this product & I couldn’t live without it. This product is a leave in balm that preps & primes your hair ready for all your styling products. It gives you more control & results that last longer. I find this product really maximises definition & helps to tame flyaways too.

Finally, it’s The Breakfast Scrub by Soap & Glory. My favourite things about this scrub are the gorgeous scent of maple and it’s creamy moisturising texture. This tub lasts for ages and makes a real noticeible difference to the skin. My legs & arms feel so soft & smooth after using this. Generally I use a body scrub once a week after shaving to remove dead skin cells. It removes old fake tan too. It’s perfect for Summer when you have to bare those pins!

Thank you for reading! What products have you finished this month?

Tili Beauty Box

Beauty boxes are everywhere at the moment and they are seriously big business for the companies that compile them. Chances are if you scroll through your Instagram right now you’ll see several¬†images of these beauty boxes from various companies. Beauty boxes are all slightly different depending on which one you choose but three things they normally¬†have in common are frequency (usually once a month), the fact that they are a subscription service and you don’t normally get to see what’s inside your box until it arrives. That is until the Tili beauty box¬†sashayed onto the scene! With the Tili beauty box new editions are created every¬†few months so you’re not overloaded with products,¬†you don’t have to subscribe as it’s just a one off payment and you actually get to see exactly what will be in your box before you decide if you want to order or not. Sounds great, right?

The Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish has long been a favourite of mine so I was thrilled to get a travel size edition of this beauty in my box because it’s perfect for holidays and weekends away. You get the muslin cloth too. I love this product because it’s great for all skin types (even sensitive) and you can actually use it on your eyes. It really bugs me when a cleansing product claims to “remove even waterproof makeup” yet states you can’t use it on the eye area. I want my cleanser to remove everything including mascara so if it can’t be used around the eye area then it’s a no from me! Cleanse and Polish not only cleanses the skin thoroughly but as the name suggests it also lightly polishes the skin to remove dead skin cells.¬†Less dead skin cells equals glowing skin!

If you haven’t heard the buzz about Alpha H liquid gold then where have you been? Bloggers and beauty editors have¬†been raving about this product and there is a limited edition version in the box:¬†Liquid gold rose. The product adds moisture & resurfaces the skin¬†without being too harsh to your skin. I’ve not been using this product long but I really like it so far.¬†My skin feels so clean & mattified after use.

The It Cosmetics¬†colour correcting (CC) cream is another product that is very hyped & I totally understand why. I already own the full size version of this product & I used it everyday on my holiday¬†as it contains SPF50 and isn’t too heavy on oily skin. The first thing that hits you is the scent.¬†This CC cream has a lovely citrus scent & smells really fresh. The shade that’s included in this box is medium which is a bit too dark for me but I’ll mix my lightening drops with it (thank god for The Body Shop!) This product has full coverage as well as skincare benefits too.

I hadn’t heard of Ultrasun until recently but I’m really glad I¬†discovered them.¬†Ultrasun produce sun cream & SPF products that contain no perfume, no emulsifiers, no preservatives so they’re suitable for very sensitive skin as well as being water resistant. The product included in this box is an¬†anti-ageing SPF30 cream for face. It’s¬†the perfect size for handbags too.

20170605_145435As you might already know Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara has been a favourite of mine for a long time. If you haven’t seen my post about it then click here. Roller Lash is the latest mascara from Benefit & it’s definitely my favourite. The wand is curved &¬†it’s great for adding curl to your lashes. The formulae is jet black and it really makes your eyes pop.¬†Even though this mascara tube¬†is travel sized the wand is¬†full size, which means you’ll get the same look from this¬†product as you would the full size.¬†This size mascara is great for touch ups on the go too.

OPI have been one of the biggest names in nails since¬†it’s launch in 1981 and are currently sold in over 103 countries worldwide. I have used OPI before & I can see why they are one of the market leaders. Their extensive range of colours are beautiful & the formulas are long lasting. I received a pretty lilac shade in my box called Polly want a lacquer? from the Fiji collection and I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it!

When haircare products are included in most beauty boxes they very rarely include more than one product from the range so I was thrilled to receive both the shampoo and conditioner from Julien Farel. Both products are from the anti-ageing vitamin range and they are paraben free as well as being colour safe. The products smell really fresh too.

Vita Liberata have quickly become one of the cult brands in the world of tanning. I have tried their bronzing powder before & I was really impressed so I was pleased to see another one of their products in my box. The¬†Ten Minute Tan does exactly what it says on the tube. You apply the product to face or body or both, wait 10 minutes then wash off and your tan will appear within 4-6 hours. My only problem with this product is that I’m not too keen on the smell as it’s too strong for me personally.

The final product in the Tili box is the Erno Laszlo cleansing duo. I must admit my first impressions of this product weren’t good. The bag includes a mini size of the cleansing oil and cleansing bar but the cleansing bar put me off because it looks just like soap. As I¬†have sensitive skin I’ve always had to be very careful about what products I put on my face and soap has always been a big no no.¬†The leaflet inside the bag did it’s best to convince me that¬†despite appearances the¬†cleansing bar is not just soap & is specifically designed for use on the face so I decided to give it a go. You apply the¬†oil first onto dry skin then lather up the soap (sorry “cleansing bar”) and apply it over your skin. The leaflet doesn’t mention if you can use this product over your eyes or not so I didn’t just to be on the¬†safe side. As well as cleansing the skin this product claims to nourish & hydrate too & my skin did feel really nice after using¬†and more moisturised than it usually does. I’d say this product is probably best for¬†dry skin types.

The only thing that would improve this box in my opinion is if the box included a card or booklet explaining the uses of each product just like GlossyBox, LookFantastic and Birchbox do.

In terms of the actual box the box¬†size is the¬†biggest¬†out of all the¬†other beauty boxes I’ve tried and perfect for storing your beauty essentials. The colour changes with each edition too which I love.

So there you have it that’s all the products inside the current edition of the Tili beauty box. Tili boxes are available from QVC UK and priced at ¬£20.

Here’s some pictures of the last Tili beauty box just so that you can compare & see the consistency of the products included.

Glossybox May 2016

Another month & another pretty parcel arrives from Glossybox brimming full of beautiful treats from new discoveries & old favourites. This month instead of the signature pink box subscribers were treated to an illustrated design of an urban destination. There were four different designs by Omy depicting London, Paris, New York or Berlin and as you can see I got New York. The brains (and beauties) at Glossybox thought this would be a great idea because city breaks are now just as popular as beach breaks. The products in this month’s box were included because Glossybox thought they’d be the perfect essentials to keep your complexion healthy, hydrated & protected (as well as beautiful of course!) while you explore the sights of the city. I’ve been a subscriber to Glossybox for almost a year now & this is definitely one of my favourite collections so far.

I’ll start off by talking to you about the Revlon mascara. A few weeks ago Glossybox subscribers were given the choice about which one of the five new Revlon mascaras they’d like to receive. Each mascara is designed to help achieve a different look. This new mascara focuses on particular desires for lashes including: volume, definition and length. I opted for length as this is what I desire most from my mascara. I will say that I think Revlon missed a trick by not having a mascara in their new range that focused on curl as this is something I also look for in a mascara. Revlon’s Super Length is a luscious lengthening formulae that glides on easily & builds quickly for a dramatic look. Super Length features Revlon’s trademarked Lash Stretch brush which features long bristles designed to deliver plush length and a tapered tip to catch & coat even the shortest lashes. This blackest black formulae doesn’t clump and manages to stay put without smudging or flaking (huge thumbs up!) This particular formulation isn’t waterproof but that is an option if you choose to pick this up. As it’s a blackest black formulation you can expect the colour to be a bold jet black shade.¬†I found the brush easy to hold & it’s texturally pleasing too with the bottle having a matte texture and the cap with a sleek shiny texture. ¬†I’ve really enjoyed using this mascara as it delivers great results really quickly. This mascara and the rest of the Revlon collection is available at Boots stores & online at Enjoy 3 for 2 on Revlon products plus also save ¬£2 on Revlon’s new Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour ¬†until 8th June 2016.

I’m a huge fan of a nude lip so I was delighted to receive Absolute New York’s Velvet Lippie in Toasted. It’s a beautiful nude shade & I’ve completely fallen in love with this universally flattering shade. It features a creamy buttery soft texture that glides onto lips easily. This product delivers a slick of highly pigmented colour that sets into an on trend matte finish. I would advise that you apply a lip balm before or after using this product because it can feel a bit dry on the lips. While this formulation doesn’t last as long as a stain it still has a decent staying power for a high street product and priced at just ¬£4.93 this lippy is a total bargain! This is a great option for all you nudists¬†out there (nude lipstick fans that is!) and if you love a bargain too then you’re in for a treat. Just be prepared to reapply during the day or on a night out (it’s small enough to fit in your clutch). Available from On the second picture below is me wearing this product.

DSC_0902.JPG DSC_0991.JPG

When you’re packing to go on your summer holiday or city break one of the most important things to take apart from your passport, plane tickets & money is a suitable SPF. However SPF is something that seems to get overlooked all to often and this has a very negative effect on our skin, especially as the sun gets hotter over the Summer months. That’s why Glossybox included Hawaiian Tropic Protective Dry Oil with SPF 15, so you no longer have an excuse to forget your SPF. This product will keep skin healthy as it’s protected from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. This clever multi-tasking product helps to prolong that sun kissed glow with it’s water resistant formulae. The blend of cocoa butter, coconut oil and vitamin C nourishes the skin so it¬†keeps skin looking smooth and hydrated with a soft glow. With a coconut scent this product smells so much nicer than your standard sun cream and does so much more too. This is a great all rounder & my new summer essential. Get 20% off any Hawaiian Tropic purchase using the code GLOSSYSUN until 10th June 2016.

I’m a big fan of Bee Good products because they’re made in Britain and all of their products contain NO parabens, synthetic colour, mineral oil, silicone, SLS or SLES. These are all unessential ingredients that often find their way into skincare products and have no benefit to our skin at all. Bee Good are award winners too and have featured in some of the worlds best publications. The Bee Good Youth Enhancing Plump & Firm Moisturiser is a rich creamy moisturiser suitable for all skin types especially mature, ageing and dry skin. This intensive daily moisturiser promises to plump, nourish, smooth and soften your complexion and leave it looking bee-autiful (sorry for the pun). I have combination oily skin so this product wasn’t really designed for me but I did find it good for my dry cheeks, neck and jawline. You can feel and see the plumping action working very quickly. The natural fragrance is really beautiful too with the scent of hydrating honey, antioxident rich propolis and raspberry seed oil which is rich in moisture boosting essential fatty acids. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin to keep hold of moisture thus helping to plump and soften the appearence of fine lines. Concentrated algae tightens and strengthens the skin. I love that this moisturiser doesn’t feel sticky and is absorbed into the skin quickly. I can’t really comment on whether it improves the appearance of wrinkles or not because I don’t really have any yet. ¬†It’s a good choice for those worried about the first signs of ageing. Use the code MAYGLOSS to save ¬£5 when you spend ¬£15 or more at until 30th June 2016.

The last but by no means least product in this box is the Hairon Zero Crease Hair Tie. These hairbands are very similar to Invisibobble hairbands, which is the brand that I already use but I’m always happy to try new ones. The clever spiral design of the hairband means it won’t leave annoying kinks in your hair & ruin your style. The smooth finish of the band also means it won’t cause friction and frizz. I think these hair ties are great and I feel lost without them. I have one living in each of my handbags so that I always have one with me incase I need to tie my hair up while I’m out. After many uses you may find that your Hairon band stretches and comes out of shape but to get it back to its original state just placed it in a bowl of warm clean water and it should go back to normal. These hair bands are great for everyday use and they last a long time. I’ve used loads of them and I’ve only ever had one snap but I do have really thick wavy/curly hair.

Subscribers were treated to an extra treat this month…a bad of lightly sea salted Proper Corn popcorn. Yum! I love popcorn so this was a very welcome surprise for me and at only 43 calories a bag I didn’t need to feel guilty about my midweek treat. They’re ideal for when you’re watching films at home, in lunchboxes or even for a picnic. They’re a great treat without all that nasty fat and calories. I’ve had these before and I’ll definitely be buying them again.

If you’re tempted to subscribe to Glossybox’s monthly beautybox service then check out Boxes cost ¬£10 each plus post and packaging.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the post! Are you a Glossybox subscriber? What did you think of this months box? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Clinique Beauty Box

The excitement bubbled away inside me when Latest In Beauty’s email hit my inbox last week;¬†The British Beauty Blogger Clinique Edit II¬†is here¬†it exclaimed & my fingers were twitching to get clicking. There was no way I was missing out on this box. The contents looked far too good. I didn’t want to feel annoyed at myself for missing out on yet another sell out beauty must have so as soon as I could I ferociously tapped away on the laptop & secured my box.

If you’ve used Clinique before then you’ll know why I was so eager to get my hands on one of these boxes. Clinique use science to bring us innovative products that deliver results fast. They are famous for their 3 step skincare systems which have different formulations for different skin types. The 3 step system was created in 1968 and it was the first ever dermatologist created, allergy tested, 100% fragrance free collection of beauty products ever marketed. The 3 step system is a daily cleansing, toning, exfoliating & moisturising regime & this Clinique box contains products from this range.

This is what my beautiful Clinique box contained:

  • Full Size Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara in Jumbo Jet (black)
  • Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion + (very dry to dry combination) (15ml)
  • ¬† Liquid Facial Soap (Mild) (30ml)
  • Superprimer Universal Face Primer (15ml)
  • Take The Day Off Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips (30ml)
  • Full Size Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm in Red Velvet
  • Aromatics in Black Fragrance (4ml)
  • Clinique For Men Face Scrub (15ml)
  • ¬£10 off voucher & invitation for a free sample of foundation

I’ll start off with one of my favourites:¬†Superprimer Universal Face Primer. I liked this product so much that I used my ¬£10 off voucher to purchase it from the Clinique website. I’m a huge advocate of using a primer under your makeup as I really believe it makes your makeup last so much longer. If you don’t use a primer already then this is a great one to start with as it covers all bases. After applying this product my skin felt much softer & smoother plus my foundation looked fresher for longer as well as lasting longer. This primer is oil free, lightweight and colour correcting. In the Superprimer range there are also primers that target specific skin concerns such as redness & dull skin. I opted for the anti redness Superprimer as I suffer with rosacea. As I was so impressed with this universal Superprimer I really can’t wait for my full size anti redness Superprimer to arrive. I’ll let you know how I get on with it & if it helps with my rosacea.

Another one of my favourite products in the box was the Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm in Red Velvet. Sweet pots contain a lip scrub & lip balm conveniently in one pot so that you can exfoliate your lips before applying a hit of sheer colour. I’m rather shy when it comes to red lipstick but I love this shade because it has a hint of red without being too loud & it suits all skin tones. I found that the lip scrub wasn’t as exfoliating as some lip scrubs that I’ve used before but it did definitely make a difference. My lips felt much softer & smoother after using the scrub plus using the lip balm straight after the scrub delivers an extra hit of moisturisation as well as a slick of sheer red colour. Pretty sweet!

I’m a mascara junkie so I was thrilled to discover a full size mascara that I hadn’t tried inside my box. The¬†Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara¬†is a great all rounder. I’m very impressed with this mascara. The wand is great for ensuring no nasty clumps make their way onto your pretty lashes. It’s a jet black shade so it really will make your lashes take centre stage. The oversized volumising wand takes your lashes from fine & faint to bodacious and bold. I found the rich colour was easy to build upon so it was easy to get the look I wanted, whether that was a big dramatic look or just a pretty daytime flutter. This mascara is ophthalmologist Tested & allergy Tested plus as with all Clinique products it’s 100% Fragrance Free.

On the left are my lashes with the Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara on and on the right are my bare lashes just so you can see the difference

Moisturising is an essential part of any beauty regime no matter what skin type you have. The¬†Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion +¬†is one of the brands most popular products & has won awards including the UK’s number 1 moisturising brand. It’s become a cult product in recent years with beauty editors, bloggers & customers alike going crazy for it. As I have combination skin the sample I received would probably be better suited to a dry skin type but the lotion was great for the dry areas on my cheeks & neck. I’ve used this product many times before & actually own the full size product in the combination/oily version. I love this product. It really does live up to the hype. It tackles dry areas quickly leaving a matte smooth & soft finish. Skin feels so much softer & springy plus looks smoother & glowing after application. This new formula helps strengthen skin’s own moisture barrier so more moisture stays in.

If I had to pick one step I’d say that cleansing is the most important part of your regime. It should be done twice a day (morning & evening) to keep skin in tip top condition & keep those pesky spots at bay. Clinique’s Liquid Facial Soap Mild¬†is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin types. I have very sensitive skin & suffer from rosacea and I found this cleanser was fine for my skin. It’s 100% fragrance free so it won’t cause your skin to flare up. The texture is very similar to liquid hand soap and this is one of the reasons that it’s not my favourite cleanser. Don’t get me wrong I do really like it but I think I must prefer a creamy or thicker texture in a cleanser such as Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Bee Good Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser or Clinique Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser.¬†One of the great things about this cleanser is that it’s mild enough to be non-stripping and leave skin lipids intact.

Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips¬†is another iconic product from Clinique. It’s especially useful for removing waterproof makeup such as mascara, eyeliner or lip stains. The formula loosens long wearing makeup in a way other removers cant, leaving you to gently swipe the makeup away with a cotton pad. It’s suitable for contact lens wearers too. I found this product did exactly what it said on the bottle. It removed all of my makeup without any trouble, even stubborn mascara that normally leaves me with panda eyes (not a good look!) It’s a great size bottle too, perfect for weekends away. It feels a bit greasy when you first apply it but don’t worry the formula dries quickly without that sticky feel.

Now I come onto the fragrance in the box Aromatics in Black.¬†It has a deep fruity floral scent with a kick of spice that makes it perfect for nights out & sophisticated occasions. It’s definitely the perfect companion to an LBD (little black dress) & some sparkling jewels. It’s a great size to pop in your clutch too. While I really love the scent I can’t say I think too much of the packaging. The packaging is far too simple & boring for a high end perfume in my opinion. Some may like the simple look but I like my perfume bottles & boxes to be eye catching & a bit different from all the other hoards of fragrance on the market. Put it this way I’d have never looked twice at it in a shop but I’d have missed out on such a gorgeous scent. The scent is not very sweet at all it’s a much darker smell. Very elegant & would suit all ages. Love the scent but boring packaging.

The final product in the collection is¬†Clinique For Men Face Scrub. My partner hasn’t started sampling this product yet but I’ve had a play with it and I’ve found that as it only has a slight minty smell there’s nothing to stop us girls from using it too. It’s a really great exfoliant and you can instantly see the difference after just one use. The scent of the product makes you feel refreshed and wide awake. It makes a great little treat for your man plus you’ll notice the benefits on his skin too! Win win.

Overall I’d say this is one of the best beauty boxes I’ve ever bought as every single product in this box was of some use to me & I really liked them all. The box cost ¬£20 and I bought it from but unfortunately they all sold out pretty much straight away but you can sign up to their emails or keep an eye on the website as new boxes are launched all the time & as this box has been so successful I imagine they’ll probably do another edit. These products are also available individually from

Sanctuary Spa Moisture Burst Facial Wash

Cleansing your face is the most important part of any beauty regime in my opinion. This is because our skin is exposed to a lot of dirt & grime and if that nasty stuff isn’t properly washed away it can lead to unhealthy looking skin and blemishes. Effective daily cleansing is the first step to beautiful and healthy looking skin. So I’m afraid those face wipes just don’t cut it as a decent facial cleanser, mainly because they have a lot of bad ingredients for the skin in them and the fact that they don’t remove all the grime or make-up either. Time to give up those (not very cleansing) face wipes and switch to a cleansing facial wash. If like me you already cleanse your skin properly with a facial wash then I’m sure your skin will thank you for it and you can give yourself a pat on the back!

You might think this is weird but I actually really enjoy cleansing my skin and have quite a long list of favourite cleansers! So when Sanctuary sent me their new face wash I was pretty excited to try it. First impressions of the product are good, the packaging is simple but pretty and I like the fact that it comes with a headband (this helps to keep hair out of the way whilst you cleanse your pretty face).

On the first application I noticed that the product had a very subtle light scent of roses which I welcomed. The wash lathered well into my skin and I love the bursting beads of jojoba & almond oil that help to keep your skin moisturised. This product claims to have a non-drying effect and work on all skin types. I can’t vouch for whether or not this actually does work on ALL skin types or not but it worked really well on my sensitive combination/oily skin. With a gel texture this face wash feels refreshing and cool on the skin so this would be particularly great in the summer or on holidays. This product is extremely easy to use and fits well in your hand. Just apply a thin layer of the wash all over a dry face (avoiding eyes) then use a damp luke-warm muslin cloth or flannel to wash away the cleanser.

My only real criticism of this product is that it can’t be used on the eye area which is a bit of a bummer if you want to use this cleanser to take your make-up off including mascara, concealer & eye shadow etc.

I’ve been a big fan of Sanctuary products for a long time now but this is the first facial product of theirs that I’ve tried and I’m pretty impressed. I might have to sample more of their facial offerings (Hehe another excuse to go shopping!)

This Sanctuary Spa Moisture Burst Facial Wash is available from Boots stores, and and is priced at £8 for 100ml. Boots has a promotion running at the moment (online only) spend £25 or more on selected skincare (including the above cleanser) and receive a free 200ml Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean facial cleanser.

Thank you for reading and please comment with your favourite cleansers or let me know how you get on with this one!
